ParticipantI love stories like that! Everyday fun with your canine best friend. Herman hates water. He had a bath the other day and for the first time, he actually walked into the tub himself! You could have knocked me over with a feather! He still won’t go near sprinklers, but it’s a good start!

ParticipantHerman is neutered, but still has some fear-based dog aggresion issues. The foster he came from had another dog, and Herman got along just fine with the dog. I don’t know your dogs, but if they get along, maybe it’s just fine.

ParticipantWelcome! Thanks to you Brinks has a home, which is better than the alternative. When my pitbull Herman adopted me, he came from a foster with a house full of people and pets. Herman has adjusted well to my townhome & just 2 people living here. I don’t know your individual dog, but there’s no reason I can see that Brinks can’t adjust. Hope this helps.

ParticipantThe dog stuff on “Examiner” is informative. Great site.

ParticipantWell said! I love the name “Kaos”. Anyone who has ever been around a puppy of any breed can relate to that name. Speaking only for myself, I choose to be here because the people on this site Do care about the breed & it’s image. btw, love the “K” name thing. Some of my family went with “D” names for all of their kids. :]

ParticipantMy humble advice is to talk to the owners of the problem barkers. If that doesn’t work, get video if possible, of the dogs barking at different times of the day. That may help your case if you need to call your local Animal Control officers.

ParticipantMe too. There were multiple employees present when this happened and not one of them said anything.

ParticipantHerman’s records were at the first vet clinic when I got him, so I just went with them for continuity. After the anti-pitbull tirade, the search for a different vet began. The whole thing was made even more weird by the fact that I had just commented on how pretty the person’s lab was. Next thing I knew, Herman got scared by all the people and animals inciting him and started barking. When I smiled and explained that Herman loved people, the reply was a sarcastic “obviously”. The situation went south from there.

ParticipantMy pit Herman won’t tolerate cats. He has gone after cats at Chuck & Don’s pet food store and the manager once had to block him as I pulled him away from the cats. I don’t trust him with cats Period. Herman is still welcome there, and it’s been made clear that he is not a “bad dog”, he is just a dog who hates cats. Part of that is probably genetic, as I’ve been told by the manager at Chuck & Don’s that cats are sometimes used as bait animals in dog fight training. Still, Herman is loved and accepted there. The staff come out with treats for Herman and love on him every time we go. Animal aggression is a problem with Herman, and we have taken steps to address this.

ParticipantWhile waiting with Herman in a vet’s office lobby, I had someone tell me it’s “too bad” pitbulls existed. Everyone around us was freaking out so I took Herman outside until the meds I was waiting for were brought out. I now have a new vet, a pitbull owner himself. There no racist rants at his office, just understanding and acceptance. Herman is loved and appreciated for who he is, not hated for what he is. : )

ParticipantGets quite technical, but worth the time.
