my bailey spends about the same time in her crate when im out and shes fine with it if im going to be any longer i get my friend to check in on her but so far bailey has been ok in her crate there is plenty of room and her toys are in there with her ,as for letting her sleep in with us thats a big no no i thing sooner or later you might come to regrete letting yours sleep in with you ,the crate is baileys bed were she feels safe and i know shes not going to get in to harm i make sure she always sleeps in her crate at night
if bailey nips at me i give a loud ouch she soon learnt not to nip ,i put a stair gate between the kitchen and front room so at meal times the dog stays in the kitchen with her dinner while we eat ours in the front room ,the main rule i have with my dog is that i never give food to the dog from my hand it all has to be in her bowl as soon as you feed them from your hand the dogs thinks it ok to take food from you hope this helps
just picked bailey up from the vets after her spay and shes 55 lbs shes 9 months old
crate training is the best thing for your dog it stops your house getting trashed when your not in and its a safe place for your dog to stay your dog will soon get the hang of it .
i feed my 9 month old 4 scrambled eggs for breakfast , half a tin of puppy food at lunch and half a tin of food at teatime plus a pigs ear for a chew snack i dont like to give her much more as it will give her a bad tummy and shes gets a runny bum
they were great thankyou
im new to pits and my red nose pit is 8 months old now shes just like one of the kids ,shes the most loving dog iv ever owned ,yes she can be a handle full at times but plenty of love and exercise soon calms her down .i cant say to you get a pit of dont get one but from my point of view there the best dogs iv ever come across and i spoil her rotten ,shes my little baby and i love her to bits.
a friend of ours came round one weekend with her boyfriend ,she had been a few times and knew our pit but her boyfriend didnt they sat down and my pit come running in to say hi in her usual way ,the friends boyfriend jumped up and said f$%king hell thats a pit bull if it bits me im calling the police.we all sat there laughing as his girlfriend said” bit lol your having a laugh it will just lick you to death then nick your seat lol” after 10 min of my pit cleaning this mans face he said well i thought i was going to get savaged there not as bad as iv heard . well thats one more person converted to know pits are not evil well dont to my little bailey for showing him she wasnt a bad dog.
i muzzled our pit every time she chewed it took a while but she soon stopped but keep up with the chew spray as well
our law was brought in by a goverment minister whos friend was bitten by a pit and took advice from a vet who has publicly said they dont know about pits so thanks to a vet and minister who know nothing about them im breaking the law and could get a 3000 gbp fine and 2 years in prison for owning a banned dog id drives me mad that i can only take bailey out at night just in case some one reports me .
you cant go wrong with a crate put his toys in there with some treats ,the more you let him in your bed the harder its going to be to get him out of it
the first time i saw my daughters pit i thought what have you got this dog for you stupid girl ,i thought this dog is a killer how wrong i was we had to look after it for a week and i couldnt believe how loving she was she would sleep on the floor beside my bed at night and follow me everywhere all her pit wanted was lots of fuss and love ,iv seen a few more pits and see how happy they were to be around humans so when my daughters dog had puppys i had to have one and im so glad i did i love my bailey to bits shes just a great big softy who loves laying behind me on my chair licking my ear , its such a shame that im breaking the law here in the uk by owning her as pits are a banned breed but i say sod our uk law shes my baby and im keeping her.
my only advise is get a kong chew toy and put some smooth peanut butter in it i had read on the forum about kong toys and it was the best buy iv ever done it keeps bailey quite and has helped with her chewing .
thanks for that letting us know that ill get rid of the stump id sooner have to keep buying toys than a dead dog ,time for the tree stump to go i thinkOctober 18, 2010 at 1:08 pm in reply to: Chewing up pillows, shoes, clothes, blankets, sheets, etc. #16041
