YaminpixParticipant
Riley was fine with the toothpaste, no stomach issues or anything else. I used a really tiny amount on a child’s toothbrush. I will brush his teeth if he has bad breath but he hasn’t since I brushed his teeth the first time. Wolves, coyotes, and foxes do alright without toothbrushes, and Riley is ok too 🙂 his tooth brush is ready any time he needs it but so far he’s doing great! Thanks for the comment, and also, I really like the Gandhi quote at the end of your posts. I saw it a few days ago and I have been thinking about it since! It’s really the truth.
YaminpixParticipantA PETA member actually told me I should “do the right thing” and release my grandmothers 7 year old Pomeranian into the wild “where she belongs.” PETA is not for me:)
YaminpixParticipantThank you all for your comments! They were helpful. I was convinced to do some rearranging in my apartment and I have a crate now. It has made all the difference. No more problems! He loves the crate and sleeps in it all the time. Thank you everyone!
YaminpixParticipantMy dog did too! I put a tiny bit of mouthwash in his water( just a tiny bit!) and that did the trick. Mouthwash is fine to ingest in such small amounts and you don’t have to pay for the stuff at the pet store, of course if you want to you can. I also brushed his teeth. I only had to do it once. I just used my regular toothpaste. If his breath remains bad after this you might want to ask a vet to be sure it’s not an infected tooth or some other dental issue. Hope this helps!
YaminpixParticipantCesar milan! read his books, watch his show. I would also suggest training classes. I found one in my area for only $50 per semester.
YaminpixParticipantI understand why your wife feels the way she does. The only thing we ever seem to hear about pit bulls is that they are killing machines ready to attack. She is a mother who loves her family and wants them to be safe. Unfortunately most of what we hear is false information spread around by the media, who are more interested in making a dramatic story than using facts in the case of the pit bull. Include her as much as you can in activities with the pup, training, feeding, going on walks, any positive activity. She’s a smart lady who loves her family, I’m sure in time and with help from you, she will appreciate your new addition. Just be positive and make her feel included, even if at first she doesn’t want to be included. My dog is a pit bull german shepherd mix (3/4 pit 1/4 shepherd) and he loves cats children, special needs people, the elderly, and anyone or anything else he meets. Being mostly pit bull, he has a higher pain tolerance than other breeds which might get hurt with rough kid play and bite in defense. Watch out! He’ll lick you to death! Good luck!
YaminpixParticipantI agree, I think it’s pretty poor taste for BET to have him host a show. That guy is bad news. But you want to know something really weird I just found out? Micheal Vick was suspended for what, 2 years from the NFL for dog fighting (animal abuse)? But you only get a 2 week suspension for domestic abuse in the NFL. Anyone else think that’s messed up?
December 6, 2010 at 9:29 pm in reply to: Is my Pit mixed? & how can I determine age of puppy? #16307YaminpixParticipantHe looks like a pit bull to me, Maybe his ears seem long because were so used to seeing pits with docked ears. His ears are really cute though, what an adorable pup! you should see my pup’s ears! He’s mixed, 3/4 pit and 1/4 german shepherd. I have 2 pics on here so far 🙂
December 6, 2010 at 9:26 pm in reply to: Is my Pit mixed? & how can I determine age of puppy? #16306YaminpixParticipantI have used the DNA tests before and they are accurate. We got another dog a while ago and didn’t know what breeds he was. We used the DNA test which gave us the same answer that we got a year later when we were able to ask the breeder.
YaminpixParticipantYeah, I understand, sometimes dog clothes can look a little ridiculous. You can get dog jackets that aren’t like that. Here are some pics:
I would consider something like these if my dog was cold in the winter.
YaminpixParticipantI would suggest reading any books by cesar milan. I found two at my local library. He does an amazing job training dogs as well as teaching people how to train dogs and get them to listen. I read his book and used alot of his techniques, and now I have very few obedience issues with my 6 month old pup. He especially like to rehabilitate and work with pit bulls. Look him up online! Good luck 🙂
-GraceYaminpixParticipantSomething to consider about pit bulls is their pain tolerance. They have a very high pain tolerance, which means that children tugging and pulling and playing rough wont bother a pit bull. Another dog might get a pinch and snap at a child in defense, but not a pit bull 🙂 that, coupled with their patience and wonderful temperament makes the pit bull a great choice for a family dog. I would say that the most important thing to consider when getting a dog is to get one your totally comfortable with. If your not comfortable with pit bulls, you don’t have to get one. It’s better to get a dog your totally at ease with, especially considering the new baby, and that your going to have alot on your hands as it is when she comes. I can tell you this from experience, I never had a problem with pit bulls before I got Riley, but after everything you hear about them I was a bit nervous around them at times. When I got Riley, he was a puppy and there was no way not to love him. I grew with him and any fears I had went out the door. He was also alot of work. ALOT of work. Potty training, obedience, taking him outside, making sure I wasn’t gone anywhere too long, It was hard, especially because I am a student and have other work to do. Riley is 7 mos. now and what a great dog he is! I love him, he’s smart as a whip and loving and a GREAT dog all around. He loves kids and small animals. I just think (for me)it might be really hard to have a puppy and a new baby at the same time, any puppy, but especially a high energy dog like a pit bull. I think a pit bull would be a good addition to your family, but for me, I couldn’t take care of any kind of puppy and a newborn baby at the same time. I might wait till the baby was a little older, but thats just me. Hope this helps, and whatever you decide to do, whatever kind of dog you get, I wish you the best of luck! Congrats on the baby!
YaminpixParticipantHello! welcome 🙂 I’m pretty new too.
YaminpixParticipantWhat lucky dogs to have such a loving owner:) Don’t worry about negative people, just focus on positivity. Pit bulls make good dogs and you have pit bulls, so you have good dogs. You are someone in your area who owns them for the right reason, and thats awesome! How lucky you are to have them and they are to have you! A good dog is a good dog 🙂
YaminpixParticipantThats awesome! Puppies are great. Welcome to the site! I’m pretty new too but this site, especially the forums, have been fun and helpful.
