“my back home neighbor told me last week that if he sees my dog again, he will shoot him.”
What a jackass…
Tell him that whatever happens to your dog will happen to him.
Better yet, report his threat to the Police. Tell them you’re scared! 😉

FWIW, the only dog that’s ever bitten me was a Chihuahua. :/

You don’t want those types around your Pit anyways! 😉Vanilla’s_DaddyParticipantWelcome both!
LOL, shouldn’t it be BOOM, BOOM, BOOM…click? 😉
Vanilla’s_DaddyParticipantPut much better than I could have done.
BTW, please note my avatar. Just like ANY dog, it’s all in how the owner handles them. I too am the Alpha of our little pack.
Vanilla’s_DaddyParticipantMy Wife and I bring our APBT to the dog park almost every Saturday and love the comments we get from other dog owners about how gentle and well mannered she is. One of her playmates last week was a small white Westie. Still even though she’s well behaved, I can be found at her side supervising her play, unlike the other dog owners who are oblivious to what’s going on. I’ve had to referee their dogs a few times.
You say you didn’t come on here to disrespect anyone but your posts are quite vitriolic.
My Wife and I also have five cats that get along well with our Pit. She sleeps with them on a regular basis. Please see the pics in my profile.
She also seems to be quite fond of children in the park. They pet her and she licks them.
She walks freely around my office with about 20 other people at least twice a week with no problem and plenty of affection between her and my coworkers.
I’m not implying that every member of ANY breed is all good but they aren’t all bad either. Please do see the ATTS link someone posted earlier.
One thing I am con scious to not do is engage my dog in “tug-o-war” games or get her toys that encourage her to grab and shake them like prey. A lot of ANY dog’s behaviour has to do with training.
Finally, If you have a problem with a dog in your neighborhood, by all means call Animal Control. We cannot make a judgement call on how that animal is behaving as we do not own it. You need to alert the authorities if the animal is a threat.
Vanilla’s_DaddyParticipantIt stinks that you had to be put in that position but I applaud you for taking steps to protect yourself as well as the neighborhood you live in.
It’s such a shame that your cat had to pay the price. I’d be pretty bent out of shape too.
I don’t know what the laws are like in the UK but hopefully when they seize the dog, they’ll give the owner a new set of bracelets and a ride to the station.I think you did the right thing.
Vanilla’s_DaddyParticipant“Regardless if your little guy has a full tail or not, love him just the same! :)”
This is the best advice in the thread! 🙂
Vanilla’s_DaddyParticipantI always thought Pit Bulls were illegal in Canada.

‘Nuff said!
Let one of those PETA pukes try to take my girl! Forget the dog, they’ll have ME to contend with!
Vanilla’s_DaddyParticipantOur Vanilla was a rescue dog and used to hide behind me from people, she never growled though.
I find it best to let her approach people. Once she warms up on her terms, it’s all good after that.
Good luck!
Vanilla’s_DaddyParticipantI recently stopped giving Vanilla rawhide and bought her a piece of deer antler to chew on.
It seems to have cut down on the gas a bit.I tell you true, she could clear a room!
Vanilla’s_DaddyParticipantJessica,
I was in the same position. My Mom is convinced that I’ll be killed one night (Vanilla sleeps with us… and she doesn’t bother our cats). We went to see my In Laws last night and the rules were that Vanilla stay on a leash and they would NOT sit near her.
By the end of the night, my Mother in Law was sitting on the couch cuddling her.The breed does have a bad rep but they really are just like any other dog. They need training and exercise. If you have a fenced in yard where you can supervise him or access to a local dog park, you’re good to go.
Perhaps the shelter would let you foster him for a while. It’s kinda like adoption “lite”. The dog still belongs to the shelter but you keep it at your home.
Do a lot of research to make sure this is the right dog for you… just like you’d want to do with any other breed.
Good luck!
Vanilla’s_DaddyParticipantCongrats on your new pup! I hope you will enrich each other’s lives.
One of the things I love about my Vanilla is that she has her full ears and tail.
It’s my understanding that people do this purely for cosmetic reasons to make the dog look “meaner” or as amberc922 said, for the purposes of fighting.
There have even been reports as of late of people trying to do this at home, which is just insanity.I have a very strong opinion toward not doing it but I won’t elaborate as I tend to get carried away.
I’ll just say that I think one of the best sounds in the world is Vanilla’s tail thumping on the couch when she sees me!
Vanilla’s_DaddyParticipantWelcome!
I’m in the same boat. haven’t had dogs since I was little and found my girl while volunteering at the local shelter.
They are sweet as sugar in the right hands.
Good luck with your new baby!
