Aren’t we supposed to allow them to walk on their paws so that it eventually callous and hardens? The booties didn’t work for my girl either…

If I were you I’d get as much info as possible about his background. Anything that can help you with how to train him so that he adjust with your family. Is he aggressive towards people in general or stand- offish? Is he trained at all (sit, stay come ect)?
My family had rescued a shar pei who seemed to have spent most her days in a kennel. She was severely under weight and scared to death of people. We are almost sure she was beaten around, seeing how she’d bolt from sudden movements. Now she is much better with now real issues (she is still a bit skittish and wary of strangers)
It’s really case by case. My suggestion would be to take it slow and if possible provide more info here so people may be able to help 🙂
SinfulVixenParticipantWow what a strict law…
(4) Any dog whose sire or dam is a dog of a breed which is defined as a banned breed under this section.
(6) Any dog conforming or substantially conforming to the breed of American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier as defined by the United Kennel Club or American Kennel Club.
These 2 are really bad. Because of looks, your family mutt may fall under such guidelines and in turn be banned. What a shame =( Glad I live in NY…
SinfulVixenParticipantTry contacting a pet lawyer who may be able to point you in the right direction. Also shouldn’t you have an appeal option? If so take advantage.Call the shelter and ask them about appeals.
SinfulVixenParticipantI would talk to a lawyer who has experience in this kind of scenarios. You can find a lawyer who gives consultations for little to no cost. Also they may charge only if they win your case. The thing is to gather as much information as possible. Please update on this matter and good Luck
SinfulVixenParticipantThey need exercise and socialization. As with any dog they NEED to be trained. Not only does this re-enforce your role as alpha, it makes you a responsible owner. They need consistency to be happy. Cosmetically they are low maintenance. They have short hair and are average shedders. When you get your puppy make sure to have alot of chew toys to avoid your house potentially becoming one :o)They aren’t hard dog once they are properly trained and socialized. But then again this can go for any dog…
Good Luck
SinfulVixenParticipantHonestly I’ve thought about breeding my pitbull. She is a great looking dog and there would be other qualities that I’d like to improve on in following generations. However after I briefly think of this, the very next thought is where and how would I keep them all(her mom had 13 pups)? After that would be the price of the beginner shots for each pup. Finally the thought of keeping them all for at the very least 12-16 weeks to be properly socialized and weaned. It would definitely be too much for me to handle alone.I have respect for breeders who can ensure a great home for each puppy. It’s the ones who breed for other less “tasteful” reasons that irk me.
SinfulVixenParticipantI’m new too but i have to say its great meeting other responsible bully owners.:o)
SinfulVixenParticipantCongrats on your new addition 😀
