You came to the right place! I have a pit i found when she was 3 mos. old, I also have 3 cats, and 2 children in my home, and I’m a groomer. Pits are very loving dogs, especially with kids, and normally to ppl all around. My 1.5 yr old girl will go so far as to lay on the floor and act as a pillow for my stepson, and she likes to climb on the couch with him. They are truly awesome animals, and a joy to raise, they do need alot of exercise, though. Lillie runs with Brandon, and I walk her for 30-45 minutes a day, sometimes more. If you look through the site, you’ll see all the info there is here. Good luck, and congrats with your new babies!
lillie of the valley grayParticipantWhere in central florida? I live 35 miles north of Tampa in New Port Richey.
lillie of the valley grayParticipanti like the real beef bones from the butcher in the grocery store the best, u take them home and cook them to get all the meat and marrow, and then u can fill them with whatever, but lillie has had hers for a year, and it is still going strong. and as all of us well know, pits can chew thru anything! lol. especially daddy’s shoes and wallets(all leather…)
lillie of the valley grayParticipantbefore u leave, take him out for a run, or some type of vigorous play to wear him out. it can be anything that makes him tired, as they say a tired pit bull is a happy pitbull, so exercise is key. and bc he is so young, he will need a lot to wear him out, at least mine did. this is what i had to do with lillie, hope it helps =)
lillie of the valley grayParticipantwhen u muzzle her, it may be necessary to get a cone head and cone her as well, at least at first. for her safety, more than anything else, bc if she is getting the muzzle off, she could accidentally scratch her eyes and or hurt her face in the act of getting it off.
lillie of the valley grayParticipantI have found that making a loud Ouch or any loud sound gets Lillie to stop. I have also taught her no teeth.
lillie of the valley grayParticipantI’m a groomer, and I take Lillie to work with me a lot, most of the customers have known her since she was 3 mos. old, but we still have some that fear for their little dogs’ safety when shes up in the front office. When we go to the park we get it more than anywhere, though, but some ppl are ignorant, and some just plain don’t know the breed. In the case of the ignorant ppl, I just shake my head and walk away..and the kicker is that their dogs are normally the aggressive ones..who knew..I just go home and let my pit and my stepson, stepdaughter and three cats lay on the floor and play, and laugh at the assumption that my pit even has a mean bone in her body :).
lillie of the valley grayParticipantLillie snores louder than most grown men i know, and she dreams. She always has since she was a puppy, and is now 20 months, and still does.. she also “talks” in her sleep, i’ve had her to the vet and he says there isn’t nething wrong with her. I also googled dog dreaming and snoring and wikipedia pulled some artices up that were pretty cool, u know, trying to figure out what dogs dream about and all that.
