Certain death for sure! Your pup deserves a medal! I would feel bad, but I would have been laughing so hard.. These dogs are so funny.

THE HOLE STRIKES AGAIN! We barely escaped with our lives last night, as the hole tried to eat Lillie again. It has a new accomplis, also…In addition to the bug, it is now in cahoots with a weed. As we passed the hole(with all of our attention zeroed in on the hole,of course!), it’s newest pertner the weed, snuck up on us from behind, and attached itself to Lillie’s leg. Were it not for her quick thinking, and lightning fast reflexes,we wouldn’t have made it out of there alive! Once the weed attacked her, she was able to distract it by making a noise I can only describe as a “dog-type growl-scream”,and in the confusion,Lillie started dragging me toward the house.I now understand how ppl can lift cars off of other ppl in a panic, as Lillie had to have been going at least 35mph. Only god knows how we made it out with everything intact, all I can say is thank god I have a pitbull, an not a poodle!

I recently saw a story on the website for our local paper, the st.pete times that had a video of a couple stealing a dog from the humane society “drop box” (they call it that, but it’s just a locked outdoor kennel), anyway, there was a video with the story, in which, they refer to the dog in question as a pitbull. At the end of the clip, you can see the dog, and it was a bull terrier-a spuds mckensie dog- that I thought pretty much anyone would know because of how popular they were at one point. The reports are rarely ever right about the breed of whatever they’re talking about. At the end of the day, it’s all about sensationalism, they figure that more people will watch a story, or whatever if they say “pitbull”. Because, who in their right mind would believe a sweet lab, or cocker spaniel, or yorkie, or shih tzu would attack someone? And even if they did believe it, “blood thirsty, crazed yorkie” doesn’t quite roll off the tounge as well as “blood thirsty, baby killing pitbull”.

It’s funny that all the pits I know are big babies, afraid of inanimate objects, and whatever. Mine has a new one to add, on our walk 2 days ago, Lillie spied a hole that was there from a 4×4 sign post that was removed, and not refilled. Not only did she nearly jump out of her skin, but then tried her hardest to jump into my arms. After her heart attack stopped, she walked back to the hole very slowly, with all the hair on her back standing straight up, and carefully started to sniff the hole. Just when she thought she was safe, a bug hopped by the hole, and as the hole tried to swallow her head whole, she jumped out of her skin again, but the killer bug was still lurking, so naturally, she saw that the only way to escape from the killer hole, and it’s accomplis the bug, was to do a running backflip, turn on the afterburners, and run home at mach 5, dragging me the whole way! I was laughing so hard, I couldn’t breathe! Where’s the camera when you need it?

You may want to go down to either a vet, or pet store and get him a cone, either an “elizabethian” (e-collar for short), or any one really, in case she irritates it by licking it. It’s also a very good idea also to use ALL the antibiotics, and maybe put neosporin on it. As long as she isn’t licking it constantly, or getting it wet, or playing and running too much, she should heal ok.

This is a wonderful story, it is a lot like mine. I found Lillie, and have never had a dog, let alone a pitbull, I have 3 cats for crying out loud!I found myself laughing at the things you’re going through, because all pitbull’s do those exact same things! From the bark, to the wiggling their way between you and what or whoever is between you and them, they are great dogs, and there will be many things that you will laugh histerically at, they’re the clowns of the dog world, and it seems that you found the perfect friend for your family. Congratulations, and never stop loving your big moose/ox (depending on your view, mine is an ox, and tramples me regularly :), I don’t know what it is about these dogs that makes them believe they are 70 lb. lap dogs, but, I wouldn’t have it any other way!) Another site you may like, that has lots of good info, and cute pics and poems is http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com scroll down to “inspirations”, and under “pet pitbulls” tab.

in reply to: Finally some good press #17336

I saw something on a website I visit frequently for pit info, stories, and whatnot, and I also saw a list of people who owned or own pitbulls, the 2 that made me smile the most were:Woodrow Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt. When I saw that 2 former presidents owned pits,I thought it was awesome, not to mention some awesomw PR for the breed.I rescued Lillie at 3 months old after she was dumped, and I tried to and still do keep up on pit events and news.Of course I know how wonderful, and funny, and smart these dogs are, but I also know the reputation they have, so since I am a groomer,I have always tried to educate ppl about pits through mine(she grew up at the grooming shop behind the front desk,so most customers aren’t afraid of her). When I took her to meet my husband’s kids for the first time, there were 8 kids at the house, and she picked his kids out over all the other kids,I have seen firsthand how great they are w/kids.From laying on the floor w/ “her boy” as his pillow,to him teaching her to balance a ball on her nose until he says go,and then teaching her to dive to the bottom of the pool to fetch plastic rings with weights on them, these are truly amazing dogs, they’re so couragous,so loyal, and soooo loving to their families.I absolutely love this breed. Here is a site I like the most, for really nice content, especially the poems and pics. http://WWW.PITBULLSONTHEWEB.COM     is the site, and at the bottom of the page the “inspirations” tab is where the poems are,and the tab in the middle of the page that says “petpitbulls” has the cutest, funniest pics I have ever seen!

Wow!My neighbor across the street has a german shepard that is 2, and full grown, and she has recently started running full speed across into my yard at lillie, and I’ve told him that he is lucky lillie is the way she is, or his dog would be in trouble, because lillie hides behind my legs, instead of attacking his dog. I also have a few other neighbors whose dogs harass lillie, one is a min pin, his mother ran itno the street screaming at the top of her lungs “Leonardo, get away from that dog, it will eat you!”, as her dog is trying to bite mine, and mine is sitting looking at me to get this rat away from her, so I shooed it back. The time before that,I was walking her, and a lady with a bichon and a yorkie ran up to us and they were barking and what-not at lillie, and I told lillie to sit(this is what I taught her as a puppy),and she did, as always, and that lady walks out into the street telling her dogs to get back into her yard, and lillie was still sitting, and they lady saya to me,”what a well behaved dog!I wish mine were like that!”,so, teaching lillie to sit when something like that happens was something I was glad I taught her.Because where I live, even though there is a leash law,no one follows it(except me), and I do because she is a pit, and I don’t want any issues, even though she is such a baby..

Wow! Points to your pup for bravery in the face of certain death! I should be able to say the same for Lillie, but, alas, she’s a little dog in a big dog’s body, and therefore, afraid of everything! Even my 3 cats bully her, only she thinks they’re playing, not attacking!

I always like the posts you put up, you seem, like me to love your dog, and understand that she is an animal. Hats off to you and your husband for what you do, I have a brother in law, his wife, and a nephew in law enforcement in Tampa, Fl, where in the last 5 months, we’ve had something like 8 officers killed, so, I  know your career can’t be easy. Anyway, thanks for the words, and God bless.

Thank you Vanilla, and your daddy, well put! :} Love the pic btw, Lillie has 3 kitties of her own, and you’d think she loves them or something…the way she protects them and sleeps with them and all…

All my family lives in Ohio, I will post this in my fb and have them all check it out!

I just wanted to chime in a little bit, because, although I guess I fall into the “emotional” and “uneducated” category as a dog groomer, I do in fact have a lot of experiance with all types of dogs. I have personally been bit by only a couple of dogs, and none of them meet anyone’s description of “dangerous”, one was a yorkie, one an american eskimo, a poodle. And, I didn’t set out to get a pit, she just fell into my lap one day 2 years ago, and after, I looked for an owner for tha alloted time, I decided to keep her. I have 3 cats, 2 kids, and a slew of other dogs in my immediate family, so I threw myself into researching her breed, and decided that I would have a poster child for the breed. And in many ways, I feel she is. I take her to the park all the time, and she plays well with everyone, but I also closely supervise to keep play from turning bad. She was ans still is very well sociallized, as she grew up behind the counter at the shop where I work. I was attacked by a dog many years ago, he was a pit mix that had been taught the wrong way to behave, and I do not allow any kind of bad behavior. Since I decided to keep her, I have always asserted myself as the leader, and my dog rspects that, that said, she and all the pets we have are animals, period, so I expect her to beahve like an anmial, a dog, a terrier, and then a pet. I realize that if I don’t stop something from turing bad, there could be a chance of injuries, and I never leave my dog ANYWHWERE unsupervised. I am just trying to raise the best dog I possibly can, and giving her and my family of animals the best life possible means that everyone listens to me. As another point of interest my kids can put their hands in my dog’s mouth, food bowl, kennel, whatever and take things from her if need be, she’s been taught that all humans are to be listened to and followed. Any animal can be mean or dangerous, a lab isn’t any less dangeous than a pit, or a yorkie, any dog can be taught to be aggressive, I know this to be a fact, I see it every day. The best thing for any dog, is excercise, discipline, and affection. Thanks for letting me ramble….Pittie Love!

Hello, and welcome! I just want to point out to any haters out there, that at Westminster last night the Am Staff was chosen out of the terrier group, and even though she didn’t place, she was a beautiful dog, and she didn’t bite/try to eat the judge , the handler, any of the audience members, or the other 29 dogs in the ring! So there! Lol, she was a pretty girl, I was pulling for her to win… Oh well, maybe next year!

in reply to: Is my Pit mixed? & how can I determine age of puppy? #16295

My girl’s hair is about as long as a man with a shaved head (almost like a weimeriner), and I found her at a young age and have wondered if she’s full blooded. I believe she is and a good specimine at that according to ckc regs. for the apbt. Do u know of ne way to find out for sure? I know they sell dna kits to determine breed, I just wonder if they work.. any insight would be appreciated. thanks.
