I have a problem with my 3 year old Pit not wanting to go potty. She was a rescue and was horrilby abused. She was an outside dog when we got her but because of all the social issues she had I wanted to keep her inside. She loves to go in a crate but she will go potty in it and then barks and whines until someone lets her out. She also gets scared of random things for no reason and will refuse to go outside and at 94 pounds if she doesn’t want to go…I can’t make her haha! We have had a lot of strong wind lately and she has hung her butt out the door and peed on the porch but will not go out. I have tried everything from treats the minute she potties to catching her going in the house and scolding her and taking her straight out. We have had her about a year and a half and our other dog was completely house broken before we got her but now that one will have poo accidents in the house. I don’t know what to do and with her being 3 years old I’m afraid she won’t ever house break. Please help!

I had/have the same problem. The younger of my girls, Georgia gets so excited when someone comes in the house! My husband and I got her to stop jumping on us fairly quick but our friends seem to ignore our rules for coming in the house. If you come in and walk right by her and don’t acknoledge her she will sit down or just rub around your legs but if you come in and start pushing her down and yelling at her to get down she just jumps even more. Few friends who abide by these rules have no problem with her jumping on them. My husband has a 2 year old son and we got Georgia when he was about 9 months old and she has never tried to jump on him. The water bottle did not work for us because she enjoyed being sprayed. We also tried pennies in a can which was recommended by our vet but she thought that was a toy and ended up getting it and playing with it.

I had this same problem when we got Lady. She was from an abusive home and was very shy. She had serious anxiety problems at first so I took some time off to stay with her until she got used to the house. The first day she and Georgia were left alone in their room, Lady managed to chew out of her crate(which any other time she loved to be in) and through a wall into the closet where we found her when we got home. She had also ripped the trim off around the door. That night I went and bought every large hard rubber toy I could find and within 10 minutes they were in pieces. I also tried the Nyla Bones and she snapped those in half and swallowed a sharp piece which cut her intestine and had to be repaired. So I’m right there with you! I can’t find anything she can’t destroy. We now take them for a walk before we leave the house for a few hours and they stay out in the house. We have had a few trash mishaps but she hasn’t destroyed anything since.

I have experienced this several times so I feel your pain. Georgia(my youngest) had a flea allergy which caused her to dig bald spots and had little pimple like bumps all over her belly. I could never find fleas and I treated her every month but the problem was the flea stuff I was using wasn’t killing the eggs. I finally bought Advantage and within a few days she had stopped chewing and scratching and her fur was growing back. Then we got Lady. Lady was abused and came from a poor environment and had contracted a mite that only Pitbulls get(this was news to me!). Both dogs were losing their fur! I took them to the vet where he just looked at them and diagnosed them with this and gave them medicine (65 dollars per dog!) Two treatments and they were back to normal. Another suggestion could be something you are using to clean with. Both my girls are very sensitive to sprays, candles, carpet freshener etc. I have had to switch to making my own cleaning products (which is a lot cheaper!) and so far we have went almost a year with no bald spots, chewing or digging. We also treat our yard once a month for fleas, ticks and mosquitoes because Georgia is allergic to those bites as well. Good luck!
