Delta Removes BSL

Pit bulls in Delta are safe!

Sarah Lowe, shelter manager of Delta Community, and Greg Vanstone, municipal solicitor, presented new bylaw to Delta council where civic politicians ended up approving removal of any breed specific designation.

Dogs will now be classified by behavior rather than discriminating against certain breeds.

The new bylaw caused higher dog licensing fees however. Spayed and neutered dogs are $35 a year and non spayed and neutered are $55. If you have a dog labeled as “aggressive” or “dangerous”, the fees are much higher; $210 for spayed and neutered and $510 for those not spayed or neutered.
