what age should a female go into heat?

we have a 7 month old blue nose and a 4 year old male. this is our first time having 2 dogs and i need some info on the whole going in heat- how old should they before you need to be prepared? what do you look for? i’ve heard different ages but my male has been acting peculiar with her. i know we can’t let him do anything for quite a while, so i need to know if she’s old enough to go in heat or if we have a little time? any help with this would be appreciated.

I may be young but. All the pits i have had start thier first heat within 6 and 7 months.and it is good to wait till she is a year to even think about pregnancy. Also a pits heat may last anywhere to 2 weeks to a month long.
