Our pit has now latched onto 5 dogs since October when we rescued him. All incidences could have been prevented. No dog was greatly harmed. We have used a metal pole to get his jaws loose. Has anyone ever removed major teeth that grip on or filed them? Any shock collar recommendations? We have a shock collar on him now that is remote controlled by whomever is holding it which does make it portable if we go to our lake home.
We really want to keep him as he’s so great to have around plus our kids love him so much. But since he was picked up by animal control in the neighborhood sweep he has a “record”. Any falling incidences result in a $1500 fine or I could go to jail if they occur off our property.
Since you adopted him, do you know his background at all? Shock Collars and such devices don’t teach them what they are doing is wrong, they just don’t do it because of the end result. He may not grab onto other dogs anymore, but maybe something else? How much obdience training has he had? How much has he been socialized? Those two things, are probably the biggest in keeping his aggression at bay.
