Hello everyone! My family and I are proud new owners to a 4 month of Pitador. His name is Butch, and he’s become my baby in just about a weeks time. He’s a fresh addition to the family, and I’m very pleased with the decision of getting him. He’s a goofball, loving, great with other animals, kids (I have a 5 year old son), and the best companion. I’m new to Pit ownership, however, I’m not new to owning large breed dogs. We’ve always had German Shepherds. So in a way I am used to dog stigmas. Also, we currently have an 6 year old, rescued German Shepherd, as well as 6 cats, a 4 year old Chihuahua/Cocker Spaniel Mix, and an Amazon Parrot named Magoo. Everyone always tells me I must have a zoo in my household.

But, I’m so glad I’ve found this site. It’s been a life saver, I have found more information here than I have from any other site on the internet. So far with his human socialization I’ve gotten mixed feelings from other people about him. Some people look at him with fearless eyes, and others well, they aren’t so nice. It’s unbelievable to me because he’s only a puppy and it isn’t the breed to fear, but the irresponsible pet owners. All animals if given the opportunity can be dangerous or aggressive. He’s such a wonderful dog.

I’ve already been told I should get rid of my dog because I have a child, and other animals; that he is breed out to “kill.” But what they don’t know is, he’s great my son, they absolutely ADORE each other, and he’s wonderful with my other pets. I’m not going to be the one to give into any pet ‘stigma,’ just because a few people have anything negative to say, that doesn’t mean I’m going to get rid of my dog because they are uneducated about him or his breed.

My mother and I have trained previous dogs before, and I’ve noticed that Butch is very smart, he aims to please. He’s very obedient, although stubborn, he already knows simple commands such as, sit, stay, come, down, etc. He’s also leash broke and heals nicely. I have achieved this at home in a weeks time. He’s also house broke. I have not got him in puppy classes yet, I’m still in the process of finishing his shots. My mother works in a vet clinic, and well, I don’t want Butch to get sick. I’ve been calling around to different places doing my best to find a puppy class that will suit us well. So far, I have some trainers in mind. Those classes should start in less than a month’s time. I’m very excited for them. I want him socialized, as I know it’s VERY important. For the time being, I have been introducing him to the pets already in our home and friends and family that come to visit. I take him on car rides daily, although he does not leave the car yet. Again, due to his shots. However, he is loved on by everyone that asks.

All in all, I’m happy to have found this website, and I’m eager to get to know people that aren’t fearful of Pit Bulls, that look at them as loving members of the family, and not a vicious animal. If anyone has any tips to offer me in any areas, please share them with me. I’d really appreciate it. Thank you so much, and it’s great to meet all of you. =]
