My puppy has enormous ears, is this typical of a Pit Bull? also, he was given to us about 7 wks ago, barely had any teeth, the assumption was he was about 10 wks at the time but he’s grown so fast,is there anyway to determine his age?

Your vet could probably estimate it for you. When I adopted Raisin they based him on 3-4 months of age because of his size but he had already had some his adult teeth come in so the vet said he was really arnd 7-8 months. I am sure someone on here has way more experience, hope someone can give you a more precise answer than mine.
P.S. your pup is adorable, love the pic in his “cone of shame”.

Your Pup looks full blooded. One way to tell is the head. It is a simple fact that pits are big-headed so if your dog looks like his head is too little for his body that is a sure sign he’s mixed. Another way to tell is his coat the shorter the fur the more pure-bred. Also look at his paws I have always known pits by their feet. Does his toes look almost like fingers. Pits usually have a good firm grip as if they were spreading their toes out intentionally. And I think he may be about 6 or seven months. He looks about the same age as my pit, Wicked, who is 6 months.

P.S. your pup is very cute

I think that when u got ur pup he was actually younger than u thought..if you search puppy growth and development stages on this site it will tell you when certain things grow..like the teeth come in a little after three weeks but just look like white points..i do think its a full blood pit though, your vet or a local dog breeder can probably give you more information. Good luck!

My girl’s hair is about as long as a man with a shaved head (almost like a weimeriner), and I found her at a young age and have wondered if she’s full blooded. I believe she is and a good specimine at that according to ckc regs. for the apbt. Do u know of ne way to find out for sure? I know they sell dna kits to determine breed, I just wonder if they work.. any insight would be appreciated. thanks.

I have used the DNA tests before and they are accurate. We got another dog a while ago and didn’t know what breeds he was. We used the DNA test which gave us the same answer that we got a year later when we were able to ask the breeder.

He looks like a pit bull to me, Maybe his ears seem long because were so used to seeing pits with docked ears. His ears are really cute though, what an adorable pup! you should see my pup’s ears! He’s mixed, 3/4 pit and 1/4 german shepherd. I have 2 pics on here so far 🙂

Thanks all for ur comments. We were told by vet that he is appropriately 4-5 months . He is gonna be big. Yay! He has a mouthful of teeth and recently found a baby tooth .
